Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of musculo-skeletal mechanical conditions that may have effect on the nervous system. Chiropractic is the third largest branch of healthcare in the world after conventional Medicine and Dentistry, having regulated practitioners in nearly every country.
The first thing to come to mind may be that Chiropractors treat bad backs and necks very sucessfully, however Chiropractors today may diagnose and provide care for other musculoskeletal conditions.
Chiropractors in the UK must hold a degree in Chiropractic, usually after following a 5 year full time course. In addition to holding a Chiropractic degree all Chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and are usually members of a professional body, usually the British Chiropractic Association or United Chiropractic Association. It is a criminal offence for someone not suitably qualified or registered to claim to be a Chiropractor.
